	UK Trade & Investment: ‘Smart Grids’ Mission to Guangzhou, China 18 -22 March 2013 A major business sector is being created in China by its construction of a "Strong and Smart Grid" involving the whole of the power network from generation plant to consumption. Now in the second (construction) phase of an 11-year deployment plan, some £150 billion is being invested over 5 years (to 2015), encompassing all aspects of the grid, including increasing generation and transmission capacity, nationwide smart meter deployment, large-scale renewable energy integration, and a large substation build-out.
