Digital Communications Knowledge Transfer Network Event: ‘Who needs Spectrum?’

Join us on 9th October 2008, as we debate spectrum issues, relevant to all wireless stakeholders.

Start date/time :  9th October 2008. 10.00 hrs
End date/time :   9th October 2008. 18.00hrs
Venue :  Moller Centre, Cambridge, UK

This is a Digital Communications Knowledge Transfer Network (DC-KTN) event, supported by Cambridge Wireless and championed by the Future Wide Area Wireless SIG Champions: Graham Maile of Plextek, Stirling Essex of CRFS Ltd and Geoff Varall of RTT Programmes.

Spectrum is a key ingredient in the competitiveness of UK industry, with around £40bn of business activity dependent on fixed and mobile wireless telecommunications and broadcasts. Essential services such as defence, transport, the emergency services and healthcare also increasingly rely on wireless communications, and hence spectrum.

The aim of this event is to gather together a wide range of ‘spectrum stakeholders’, in order to consider whether the spectrum available in the UK is managing to meet both current and future needs. It also discusses whether recent changes to spectrum assignment and regulation are helping or hindering potential growth.

Specific topics will include:
  •       Spectrum demand pressure points.
  •        The timetable for future spectrum releases.
  •      Spectrum and standards: finding an integrated approach.
  •       The cost of technology neutrality.
  •       Spectrum efficiency-enhancing technologies and novel methods of accessing spectrum.
  •        The arguments for reserving spectrum for innovative and social applications.

Speakers will be drawn from across the industry, to ensure a variety of perspectives. Ample time will be allowed for discussion and debate.

Cambridge Wireless is delighted to be working with the DC-KTN on such a directional topic. Do join us on 9th October 2008 for a far-reaching and informed debate which will be held at The Moller Centre, Cambridge.
