The First International Workshop on Smart Wireless Communications (SWICOM 2012) sponsored by Institute for Research in Applicable Computing (IRAC) and Rohde & Schwarz, will take place at the University of Bedfordshire, Luton, UK. The objective of the workshop is to bring together researchers and engineers from both academia and industry who contribute to the ongoing trends and advances of smart wireless communications, such as cognitive radio, software defined radio, MIMO, smart antennas, etc.
Cognitive radio has recently become an emerging technology for improving spectrum utilisation, whereas software defined radio relies on software technologies to provide an efficient and flexible substitute to hardware wireless communications components. MIMO and smart antenna technologies adaptively exploit extended dimensions of wireless spectrum resource sharing, such as space, frequency, time and polarization, allowing for a number of simultaneous independent radio links and, hence, improving the channel efficiency.
Topics include, but are not limited to:
- Software defined radio (SDR) technologies and applications
- Cognitive radio networks and protocols
- Spectrum sensing
- Smart antennas and array processing techniques
- MIMO and Space-time coding
- Channel modeling and characterization
- Antenna diversity techniques
- Reconfigurable wireless technology and networks
- Software design and implementation of SDR
