Software & Open Source SIG: ‘Awaken Your Inner Hacker with a Raspberry Pi!’

Whether you long for the days when you wrote software just for fun, or you have an interest in encouraging the next generation to do just that, this event is for you! Based around the Raspberry Pi (a $25 ARM-based computer board), this stimulating event promises to reawaken the engineer in you. Starting with the background to the Pi (by no less than Jack Lang, one of the founders of Raspberry Pi), the session will quickly move on to show you how you can actually get started with programming the Raspberry Pi, and how you can contribute to the mission of cultivating the joy of programming. Confirmed speakers include: Jack Lang, Founder of Raspberry Pi, Rob Bishop of Raspberry Pi and a presentation from Eben Upton of Broadcom

Start date/time :  14:00 29th January 2013
End date/time :  17:30 29th January 2013
Venue :  Broadcom, Unit 406 Science Park, Milton Road, Cambridge CB4 0WW

Exciting new 'Bring & Share' session

We have a new and exciting section on this agenda for which we need your input! During the ‘Bring & Share’ we invite anybody who already has a Raspberry Pi project to bring it along and share it with the group. Each person will receive 5 minutes to showcase their project. Please email clare.kettle@cambridgewireless.co.uk if you would like to participate in this session. Participants so far are:

  • Jonathan Pallant from Cambridge Consultants will demo his wireless project on animal conservation in Africa
  • Rosemary Francis from Ellexus will bring along Breeze, a product which shows developers what their software is doing at the system level.

This SIG is championed by Philip Burr of Mentor GraphicsDavid Roberts of CARET (Centre for Applied Research in Educational Technologies) University of Cambridge and Kevin Rolph of MediaTek.  We are also extremely grateful to Broadcom for hosting this event.
