About the event

Often the key value in any business, but particularly growing technology companies, is in its confidential information and trade secrets. A greater understanding of the rights that you have in such information and some of the simple steps that can be taken to protect it can be critical to the future success of your business. In today’s business market as employees are more mobile and stay with companies for shorter periods of time, it is more important than ever for businesses to protect their confidential information from being exploited by competitors.

Do you understand the effect of all the confidentiality agreements you sign? Are you confident that the restrictions imposed on your employees and suppliers are effective? Can we ever enforce such restrictions? Are confidentiality agreements and restrictive covenants even worth the paper that they are written on? Are you alive to the challenges posed by social media following termination of employment?

In this practical workshop, Claire and James, will help you answer these questions and guide you through practical steps and common errors made by businesses in protecting their business secrets. They will look in particular at:

What information can be protected and what cannot
Drafting enforceable restrictions in employment contracts
The risks in “standard” documents
How to respond to misuse of your confidential information
The potential consequences of breaching someone else’s confidential information
Database rights and managing data protection issues
