Graduate Engineer or Computer Scientist - Cambridge Consultants

We are looking for someone to work on client assignments developing digital signal processing software for a wide range of wireless systems and products.

Main purpose of the job

To work on client assignments developing digital signal processing software for a wide range of wireless systems and products.

Type of work undertaken by group

Cambridge Consultants is a world leader in wireless communications, with one of the largest independent wireless development teams in the world.  Our work ranges from high volume consumer applications such as portable internet-based devices, through to professional high-performance systems including the air traffic control radios used to govern the US airspace.  This breadth of wireless activity provides tremendous variety to our team members.  The markets that we address include telecommunications, healthcare, industrial, satellite, consumer and automotive.  Examples of our wireless design includes the first digital patient monitor in the medical WMTS band, the WiMAX PHY reference design adopted as the gold standard for European type approval testing, a professional intercom used at the Olympic Games and within professional broadcasting studios, satellite handsets, as well as key technologies fuelling the rollout of 4th generation cellular systems.
The DSP Group in the Wireless Division works closely with other disciplines to develop cutting-edge software-defined radio products for standards like LTE, 3G and WiMAX, and for bespoke systems, and related technologies like audio and video compression. We use first principles thinking to create class-leading designs based on digital signal processors ranging from our own in-house ASICs cores through to the highest-performance multi-core devices.

Specific responsibilities

Technical staff work on client assignments in multi-disciplinary project teams, sometimes on more than one project concurrently and in different team roles. A strong desire to learn to develop and implement solutions based on different technologies and for different target markets is essential. Our customer base is diverse and ranges from blue chips to start-ups.
High quality work is essential from every team member. You will work on the design, implementation and testing of signal processing software on high-performance and unusual hardware platforms.
As a project team member you would be responsible for carrying out your specific project tasks within the time-scales and budgets agreed with your project managers. There are many aspects to the work in addition to design. As your experience develops, you might wish to take on further responsibilities.
