Digital Broadcast and Multimedia

The aim of the Digital Broadcast and Multimedia SIG is to focus on enabling technologies for digital broadcast and, in particular, digital services such as TV to mobile and fixed devices using terrestrial, satellite, IP and cable transmission.  The SIG is championed by: Martin Orrell - TTP Group, Graham Norgett - CellMetric, Tim Cook - Arqiva and Keith Cheshire - Motorola.

Digital TV is one of the hottest technology topics today but will the digital dividend re-invigorate the industry and deliver real value to consumers? The complexity of High Definition, Mobile TV, IP TV and advanced second generation RF modulation technologies like DVB-T2 can makes this market a difficult one to address.  Digital TV transmission is a convergent technology, this creates a number of issues that must be addressed and resolved.  The Digital Broadcast and Multimedia SIG would seek to address the following key topics:

  • Technology Options – the technology choices for Digital Broadcast?
  • Regulation – the regulatory issues that impact Digital Broadcast
  • Mobile handsets, IDTVs and set top boxes - their capabilities and limitations
  • Content and protection – content and consumer protection
  • User experience - creating a valued and seamless experience
  • Next generation services - one stop shop for media plus interactivity
  • Advertising and User Generated Content the democratisation and metrics of media and delivery
  • Business Models for Mobile and fixed Digital TV - the challenge of making money
