Mobile Broadband SIG

The Mobile Broadband SIG is championed by:

Tom Rebbeck of Analysys Mason

Mark Neild of Nokia Siemens Networks

Peter Montgomery of GSMA

The aim of the Mobile Broadband SIG is to bring together industry players and other interested parties to understand how to optimise the future of Mobile Broadband.  This is still a relatively new market so it is imperative that we communicate at all levels with all key stakeholders.  This SIG will cover topics such as ‘notspots’, download capabilities and speeds, coverage, data offload, backhaul, mobility and charging models as well as other topics that emerge as new technologies and solutions evolve and grow.

Mobile Broadband is one of the hottest wireless topics right now and will undoubtedly continue to generate massive interest.  It is estimated that the market will grow exponentially as networks, devices and services mature and spark mass market adoption and that by 2012 mobile broadband will represent almost half of total mobile service revenues.

This SIG provides a great opportunity to bring together Cambridge Wireless members and other parties from across the globe who have an interest in Mobile Broadband. We organise events and actively encourage networking among the participants.

According to recent figures from OfCom some 30% of people do not have access to proper mobile data services while 14% of the population have no access to broadband above 2Mb/sl.  Furthermore, the UK – leaders in the deployment of 3G technology now look to be the laggards for LTE. How has this happened?

This session will address some of the complex issues surrounding the provision of rural broadband.  In particular:
1.      Is there a commercial case for universal (99%) broadband?
2.      What is happening with 4G spectrum and how do we best exploit it for  mobile broadband?
3.      Is the so called “Digital Dividend” spectrum the answer to all of our prayers for rural
         broadband?

Speakers already confirmed for this event include:

This session will bring together a variety of different experts to look at rural broadband from all perspectives with a pragmatic focus rather than theoretical or technical.  Our panel of experts will set out the main issues and explain some of the potential solutions before addressing questions from the audience.
