Semiconductor SIG, ‘Industrial Automation' The first of a thought-provoking and practical series of events, which will see a slight shift in focus for this popular SIG. This first event will look at Industrial Control and Automation, in its many forms. This SIG is championed by Richard York of ARM, Peter Claydon of Silicon Southwest & Carson Bradbury of Cre8Ventures. We are extremely grateful to ARM for hosting this event at their Cambridge offices.
Our modern world devours energy at an incredible rate (around 15 terawatts in 2008) and consumption of this energy has been steadily increasing for many years. Research has shown that if this is not brought under control we will all be facing a serious problem that will affect our lives in many ways. In addition, the bigger environmental impact of energy usage is something we are all acutely aware of and we must actively contribute towards measures to counteract the damage done.
Both the electronics and the semiconductor industries have a great opportunity to make a major positive impact on energy usage using a huge range of different applications. There are many, many examples of how semiconductors can help; from improvements within our consumer products to building a more intelligent energy grid that interconnects many of our products together.
To explore the challenges and solutions to reducing energy usage the Semiconductor SIG is running a series of events, starting in November, with each one focusing on a specific application area. An underlying theme of these events will be how wireless communication technologies can enable significant energy savings in products and systems. There will also be opportunities during the day to understand further why wireless has been under utilised in the industrial world.
Overall, these events will be looking at what the electronics and semiconductor industries can do to minimise their impact on the already incredibly damaged environment. This first event will look at Industrial Control and Automation, in its many forms. This encompasses a wide range of areas including material management, manufacturing, packaging, distribution and infrastructure and many more. Future events will look at topics including transport, consumer products, smart grids, metering and appliances and the interconnectedness of devices.
As with all our SIG events, there is ample time set aside to network, debate and answer the issues discussed. This event is predicted to sell out quickly; so registration is essential to confirm your seat.
Events are FREE to Cambridge Wireless Members. Tickets for non-members are £150.00 plus VAT. To join Cambridge Wireless, and attend all future events for free please visit: www.cambridgewireless.co.uk/sign-up |
