Cambridge Wireless Future Wide Area Wireless SIG, “WiMax & LTE– Delivering on the promise!”

End date/time: 29th January 2009 17.00 hrs
Venue: Downing College, Cambridge

Alcatel Lucent Logo                                   Rohde & Schwarz Logo

This event has kindly been sponsored by Alcatel Lucent and Rohde & Schwarz  and is championed by Stirling Essex of CRFS, Geoff Varrall of RTT Programmes and Graham Maile of Plextek.

Since our last meeting on this topic (nearly two years ago), significant advances have been made with both systems, and the earlier head-head competitive nature of the systems has to some extent been replaced by a pragmatic focus on specific application areas.

However, some areas of debate remain. At this (all-day) meeting, we will seek to answer the following questions:

  • How do the economics of the two systems stand up against currently-deployed systems such as HSPA?
  • Is TDD the natural focus for LTE rather than FDD?
  • What are the likely timescales for rolling out these new systems in earnest, and where will the initial rollout take place?
  • What new applications and/or services are going to be enabled by these systems?
  • Will the current economic squeeze force a rationalisation or polarisation of investment decisions, with companies currently active in both LTE and WiMAX being forced to focus on only one system going forward?
