Europe's digital economy is a crucial driver for economic growth, productivity and job creation across the EU. The potential of digital single market across Europe is estimated at adding a further €415bn to the EU economy and creating 3.8 million new jobs. However, the only way to deliver this economic growth will be to make it easier for industry to realise the full opportunities of an ambitious and workable vision for the Digital Single Market. The right policies and approaches, especially those that incentivise industry to invest in the digital technologies, services and infrastructure, are essential to ensure success on these ambitions.
techUK as the UK trade association for the digital industries, believe it is vital that companies involved in the provision of digital technologies and services are fully aware and have a voice through techUK on the wide range of Commission proposals relating to e-Commerce, VAT, copyright, intellectual property, online networks and platforms, geo-blocking, big data and cloud computing, and telecommunications services. On the latter, the European Commission is also seeking to take forward a parallel initiative on a Single Telecommunications Market – 'The Connected Continent'.
This event builds upon the techUK-led delegation of UK growth tech and digital companies to BrusselstechUK-led delegation of UK growth tech and digital companies to Brussels, and the techUK paper published in March 2015 'Creating a Digital Single Market for Jobs and Inclusive Growth' outlining eight principles to guide the development of the European Digital Single Market.
