About this event

With the growing importance of wireless sensor networks and even more broadly the Internet of Things concept, there is virtually no electronic system that does not require wireless connectivity.

This event will discuss the technical attributes of the ST portfolio of RF transceivers, network processors ICs and fully certified modules for key wireless connectivity technologies including sub-1GHz long-range networks (6LowPan,  M-Bus (wM-Bus), Sigfox and LoRaWAN®), 60 GHz short range millimeter-wave RF, Bluetooth® LE, 802-15-4, OpenThread and Zigbee 3.0 protocols.

Who should attend

This workshop is aimed at hardware and software engineers who have interest in understanding the features and benefits of 802.15.4 protocols and Sub GHz radio solutions in future products.

At the end of the event, all attendees will be invited to free of charge evaluation boards to aid their research and development.

Session 1: ‘ST’s successful STM32 expands into wireless connectivity’

In this session Chris will introduce the STM32W range of wireless Microcontrollers.
The STM32Wx MCUs bring wireless connectivity to the STM32 MCU portfolio. They cover Sub-GHz as well as 2.4 GHz frequency range operation. They are easy to use, reliable and perfectly tailored for a wide range of industrial and consumer applications. 
STM32Wx solutions are compatible with multiple protocols, from point-to-point & mesh to wide-area networks with outstanding low-current consumptions and built-in security features. STM32Wx wireless MCUs feature a two-in-one, dual-core architecture built around an MCU and a radio transceiver, in one deeply integrated and highly cost-efficient System-on-Chip. STM32Wx solutions are thus a perfect match between real-time and/or highly power-efficient applications. 
The STM32Wx portfolio includes two series, featuring different radio protocols: the STM32WB and the STM32WL.
The WB can support various stacks including, Bluetooth, Zigbee and Thread.

Session 2: ‘Bluetooth 5 and Bluetooth Mesh

In this session Andrew will discuss the BLUENRG family of SoC’s and modules that can support Bluetooth 5 (and beyond), along with Bluetooth meshing. The latest family are compliant with Bluetooth SIG core specification version 5.2, ST’s third generation of BlueNRG 2.4 GHz Radio IP combines unparalleled RF performance with very long battery lifetime.
The BlueNRG-LP SoC addresses both point-to multipoint connectivity and Bluetooth SIG Mesh networking, enabling reliable large-scale device networks.
Suitable for proprietary radio communication, the BlueNRG-LP is also ideal for ultra-low latency applications.

Session 3: ‘Sub GHz Connectivity’

Petteri Paatsila, Technical Marketing Manager, STMicroelectronics

In this session Petteri will discuss sub-1 GHz solutions including transmitters, transceivers, modules and System-on-Chips supporting a host of different applications in home and building automation (Smart Home and Smart City) as well as industrial process control (Smart Factory) and automated metering infrastructures (Smart Grid) or, more broadly, for the Internet of Things (IoT).
They support network operated in the license-free ISM and SRD frequency bands at 169, 315, 433, 512, 868, and 915 MHz and several modulation schemes such as LoRa, 2(G)FSK, (G)MSK, 4(G)FSK, BPSK, OOK and ASK. Sigfox support is also included.
