About the event

If you’ve been home schooling your children, you’ve probably learnt the value of finding them tasks they can go and do for themselves. The same approach is rolling out across the IoT – using the increased power of edge processing to allow devices to be autonomous for most of their lives. That’s become possible as new architectures and advances in silicon have started to deliver PetaOperations per Watt, making battery powered AI a reality.

This online SIG event will look at the evolution of autonomous processing, its potential and some of the applications which are already using it.

'Cloud-sized AI running at the edge'

Powerful machine learning models for medical applications are typically constrained to the datacentre, where power and size are secondary concerns. Using the latest technology from ARM, we demonstrate a vast reduction in power consumption and memory for the same model, enabling deployment in edge applications with no connectivity and limited energy budget.

Michal Gabrielczyk - Director, Product and Strategic Alliances, Eschercloud AI

Michal works to make technology relevant to business and society. He is currently Director, Product and Strategic Alliances for Eschercloud AI. Eschercloud AI is a technology innovation and engineering company that is working towards a sustainable European digital economy.

Michal has a long track record in strategy and technology advisory roles, including at product developers Cambridge Consultants and Telecoms, Media and Technology specialist consultancy Analysys Mason. In those roles he has been fortunate enough to be able to work on strategy development with ambitious startups, blue chips and brand names across six continents. Michal holds an MA in Geography from Corpus Christi College, University of Cambridge; and an Executive MBA from Cambridge Judge Business School. He is also a director of ESG Oracle.

Brendan Gillatt - Principal DSP Engineer, Signal Processing & AI, Cambridge Consultants

Brendan Gillatt is a Principal Engineer at Cambridge Consultants, with a strong focus on digital signal processing and Edge AI. He has been a team lead for a number of communication, audio and Edge AI projects. Additional areas of research interest include remote sensing, computer vision and computer architecture. Prior to this he has worked at Roke Manor Research as a DSP engineer. He has a demonstrated record of developing low power, high performance embedded systems for clients ranging from startups to multinationals

Loïc Lietar - CEO, GreenWaves Technologies SAS

Loïc is a co-founder and the CEO of GreenWaves Technologies. GreenWaves Technologies, a fabless semiconductor company, designs disruptive ultra-low power embedded solutions for interpreting and transforming rich data sources such as images, sounds, radar signatures and vibrations using AI and signal processing in highly power-constrained devices such as hearables, wearables and IoT sensors. Prior to this, Loic worked 25 years for ST where he led several product divisions, has been the Chief Strategy Officer and co-founded and managed ST’s corporate venture fund. Loïc has been an active business angel for the last 8 years. He has also been president of Minalogic, the French cluster for semiconductors.

Paul Green - Creative Director, Iotics

Paul originated Arkessa in 2006 - the business that provides remote internet services to multitudes of machines. He is currently creating the services Arkessa will offer in five year's time. His professional life combined engineering and science has taken him through a variety of roles, including design and production engineering, business planning, marketing and corporate sales, mainly in the telecommunications sector. Interestingly, the first product he introduced to manufacture is now is in the Science Museum in London. A passionate and committed Christian, Paul is as excited about materials science and quantum physics as he is interested in railways, walking, skiing and the natural world.

Nick Hunn - CTO, WiFore Consulting

For the past thirty years Nick has been closely involved with short range wireless and communications, designing technology that helps to bring mobility to products, particularly in the areas of telematics, M2M, IoT, wearables, smart energy and mobile health. He is closely involved with the Bluetooth SIG, the Continua Alliance and other medical and wireless standards bodies. He is the author of 'The Essentials of Short Range Wireless' - a book attempting to explain the application of wireless technology to product developers.
