Autonomy at the Edge (or Home Schooling for the IoT)

Brought to you by The Connected Devices Group

This online SIG event will look at the evolution of autonomous processing, its potential and some of the applications which are already using it.

Registration for this event is now closed.

About the event

If you’ve been home schooling your children, you’ve probably learnt the value of finding them tasks they can go and do for themselves.  The same approach is rolling out across the IoT – using the increased power of edge processing to allow devices to be autonomous for most of their lives.  That’s become possible as new architectures and advances in silicon have started to deliver PetaOperations per Watt, making battery powered AI a reality.

This online SIG event will look at the evolution of autonomous processing, its potential and some of the applications which are already using it.

Employees of CW member organisations can attend this event for free. You will need to be logged into your CW account to access your free ticket – log in (or reset your password here)

The information supplied below may be subject to change before the event.

14:00

Welcome from our CEO, Simon Mead

14:03

Welcome from our Chair Nick Hunn, WiFore Consulting and Connected Devices SIG Champion

14:05

Michal Gabrielczyk, Head of Edge AI, Cambridge Consultants

'Intelligence at the edge: where are we today and how did we get here?'

Semiconductor and algorithmic innovation are expanding the possibilities for deploying AI in everyday devices. In this talk Michal will outline why we would want to add intelligence at the edge and the factors enabling it.

14:20

Loic Lietar, CEO, GreenWaves Technologies SAS

'Autonomy at the Edge'

14:35

Brendan Gillatt, Principal DSP Engineer, Signal Processing & AI, Cambridge Consultants

'Cloud-sized AI running at the edge'

Powerful machine learning models for medical applications are typically constrained to the datacentre, where power and size are secondary concerns. Using the latest technology from ARM, we demonstrate a vast reduction in power consumption and memory for the same model, enabling deployment in edge applications with no connectivity and limited energy budget.

14:50

Panel session with all speakers, chaired by Nick Hunn, WiFore Consulting and Connected Devices SIG Champion

15:00

Closing remarks and the session ends
