What Technology (OS) Platform?
Core to a Smart and Intelligent City is its IT operating environment. We are seeing a number of different solutions emerging, but what works best for the Cities? We will review the availability of ‘designed’ city operating platforms in comparison with large brand IT solutions and bespoke developments, as well as the potential of embedding intelligent analytics and machine learning to optimise city operations in real time.
The session will consider and discuss the pro’s and con’s of the options and consider how a city might navigate their way through the choices ensuring they don’t buy legacy and maintain an agile IT environment to ensure both horizontal and vertical integration for future development.
Procurement Platforms - the next step for Industry and Cities?
As more and more applications are developed, trialled and rolled out across our Cities there is a need to consider new models for procurement. One that is flexible and allows for the scale up of successful pilots. There is a need for Cities to be able to procure against complete and integrated solutions all the component parts of a smart application and add to it over time without repeating time consuming and costly procurement processes.
An online integrated procurement platform offers this potential and will be presented and discussed as a way forward. With the agility to be expanded as new components are added, this approach offers potential, not just to a single city authority, it may be expanded to include multiple cities worldwide.
The SIG Interactive:
As with any SIG there will be an opportunity to review its terms of reference as well as outline and discuss a forward thematic activity programme drawing on attendee’s interests and priorities. As a new Special Interest Group, SIG Champion volunteers will be welcomed to get involved and help develop the SIG community ensuring we involve what is a very broad ecosystem from research through design, development, supply and city authorities.
Smart and Intelligent Cities – The State of Play
The Smart and Intelligent Cities SIG will be a focus for news, information and insights on the subject as well as a source for networking and finding partners. The State of Play element will provide a keynote opportunity to provide an input on what is happening across the UK and around the world. Including new projects, Government initiatives and upcoming events.
