Technologies such as Network Function Virtualization (NFV) and Software-Defined Networking (SDN) are the enablers for this transformative trend. The virtualization does not come without challenges though, in particular in areas of interoperability and integration as well as in scale and dealing with extreme event scenarios. Covering opportunities and threats for the entire industry, this half-day event will explore potential use cases, both from a short and long-term perspective and separate myth from reality. It will bring practitioners together to exchange their views and meet those who want to understand how the future of network operations will look like.
The aim of this captivating event is to cut through the hype and FUD in order to lay out, debate the likely progress of one of the most radical developments in the networking industry in the past 20 years and identify things that can be done now to prepare for the coming change. Speakers will address the following questions:
-
How can industry players prepare for it?
-
Will the newly built networks exist as some virtual entities somewhere in the Cloud by 2020?
-
Who will be offering what services to whom?
-
Will there still be a role for equipment dedicated to ‘networking’ or can everything be done with COTS hardware?
Confirmed speakers for this event are:
-
Philip Bridge, Senior Network Architect, EE
-
Arjuna Sathiaseelan, Senior Research Associate, Cambridge Computer Labs
-
Alan Carlton, Senior Director, InterDigital (UK)
- Joakim Rönnblom, Strategic Product Manager, Huawei
