We use this facility to support early exploration of 5G and advanced connectivity features by UK companies, small and large, delivering meaningful proof-of-concept and demonstrators in new application areas for partners in several key industry sectors (creative, manufacturing, logistics, etc.), as well as supporting our internal research and development activities in projects funded in the UK and Europe (Horizon 2020).

This role offers an exciting mix of activities focused on practical deployment and operation of our 5G testbed as a private mobile network, as well as getting visibility and involvement with advanced service development activities for 5G infrastructure with a particular focus on network virtualisation, orchestration and automation.

●      Ability to document, maintain and troubleshoot network installations across multiple technologies. Some training can be provided if one of the areas is not very strong.

●      Ability to specify, configure and setup core components of the fixed and mobile network.

●      Knowledge and experience working with network equipment (switch, router and firewall) configuration, e.g. Firewall Palo Alto, Extreme Networks/Edgecore switches, network design drawing and documentation; WiFi Management (Cisco Meraki  - Installation, Configuration, Cloud-based management, SSID, VLAN, testing and troubleshooting)

●      Programming and scripting experience, especially Python/shell, with hands on experience on network setup, troubleshooting and maintenance at Linux admin level (system setup, configuration, deployment and troubleshooting  management, IDRAC, MAAS, scripting language Python, Perl, SNMP, VMWare, OpenFlow)

●      Good understanding and hands-on ability to work in virtualised environments would be a strong desirable, as it is experience with modern devops and automation technologies.
