AI Engineering Summer Internship

Summary

We have an exciting Summer internship opportunity in Artificial Intelligence (AI) Engineering in Pharmaceutical R&D in Cambridge.  AI is having a significant impact on health care and life science industries, with daily breakthroughs in healthcare automation and disease insight.

Data is at the heart of this transformation with Pharmaceutical R&D underpinned by data from published experiments, patents, ‘omics and imaging assays, high through put chemistry screening, in vitro and in vivo assays, clinical trials, patient records, insurance claims, etc.  The challenge is 2 fold; the ‘optimisation’ of R&D: how we automate the processing and analysis of individual data sets and the ‘transformation’ of R&D: how we can combine and model disease across these high volume, heterogeneous, often time sensitive data points at a molecular, cellular, patient and population level.  Through such modelling we are starting to gain enormous insight on drug:disease interactions and so step changes in our understanding of drug safety and efficacy, leading to advanced precision therapies in the clinic.

If you are a high achieving STEM undergraduate (Maths, Computing, Engineering) interested in a career in AI, who loves big data challenges and would love to learn more about AI in healthcare, please apply.   The internship is for 3 months, working with one of the largest and best AI Engineering teams in the Life Science industry.  You will be exposed to best practices in large scale, life science data manipulation, deep learning, natural language programming, graph recommendation engines and visualisation.  You will be expected to complete a mini-project in one of these areas, working as part of an ongoing AI Engineering team.   Given the technical nature of the work, we are looking for undergraduates who have completed at least 2 years of study and have skills in math, Python and R programming languages; no life-science experience is necessary.

AstraZeneca embraces diversity and equality of opportunity. We are committed to building an inclusive and diverse team representing all backgrounds, with as wide a range of perspectives as possible, and harnessing industry-leading skills. We believe that the more inclusive we are, the better our work will be. We welcome and consider applications to join our team from all qualified candidates, regardless of their characteristics. We comply with all applicable laws and regulations on non-discrimination in employment (and recruitment), as well as work authorisation and employment eligibility verification requirements.
