Summary

The focus of this role is fully harnessing the flexibility of the cloud to enable the development and deployment of cutting-edge AI technology.

You will play a vital role in unlocking commercial value from some of the richest and most exciting datasets in the UK (including those from BT and EE).  The focus of this role is fully harnessing the flexibility of the cloud to enable the development and deployment of cutting-edge AI technology.  You will be working closely with Digital colleagues, including data scientists and engineers, and IT architecture specialists to ensure our AI-based solutions to customer needs are agile, robust and secure.

You'll have the following responsibilities

  • Reliable and efficient deployment of AI capabilities in the cloud, including migration of tasks, balancing on competing stakeholder needs across BT and with customers
  • Support definition of and embed cloud computing best practice in the team to ensure appropriate levels of security, performance and management.
  • Collaborate with multiple Customer Facing Units, technology, legal and R&D teams to ensure scaled and safe AI deployments in the cloud, with appropriate ongoing governance.
  • Subject-matter expert on AI deployment in the cloud with responsibility for advising DAIS and data leaders across the Group on architectural options
  • Guiding more junior members of the team.
  • Clear and transparent reporting on technical progress of projects, identifying and highlighting risks and opportunities as appropriate.
  • Supporting proof-of-concept, blueprint or patterns process, to inform and develop cloud engineering practices.
  • Managing cloud technology-related design or implementation trade-offs at a project level.
  • Managing design activity and peer reviews with cloud platform engineers, Architects, developers and domain subject matter experts in BT.
  • Designing, implementing, automating & managing deployments for projects.

You'll have the following skills & experience

  • Experience managing design, deploying and operating cloud-based solutions (for example, GCP, AWS) and/or hybrid integrations - across multiple projects.
  • Experience of deployment within structured and ‘guard-railed’ Cloud environments (Landing Zones).
  • Knowledge of infrastructure, network, compute, storage & service governance - of at least one cloud platform.
  • Nice to have: Prior experience of end-to-end AI- or analytics-based solutions and related cloud infrastructure.
  • Expertise in developing cloud-based practices for commercial value.
  • Nice to have: Previous development and settlement of reusable deployment patterns/blueprints for core project use-cases.
  • Experience managing requirements, analysing and validating cloud architecture, design, security and integration options.
  • Nice to have: Any engagement or consulting experience in cloud infrastructure & data aspects of solution design.
  • Experience in migrating legacy solutions or components to a cloud platform.
  • Nice to have: Demonstrable knowledge of applicable data services, migration techniques, tooling & refactoring approaches.
  • Experience in implementing and steering good software engineering practices
  • Demonstrable experience in the software development life cycle with modern Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment approaches, including infrastructure.
  • Good understanding of GIT/Gitlab processes & Pipelines.
  • Nice to have: Experience in one or more of: Terraform, Shell, Cloudformation, Python or other Cloud DSL/Yaml approaches.
  • Nice to have: Container build, orchestration and management.
  • Experience in handling data securely.
  • Understanding of cloud and infrastructure security practices, principles and/or frameworks.
  • Knowledge of access, identity, encryption and role management services on a major Platform.
  • Nice to have: Knowledge of native security tools & services for a major cloud Platform
  • Experience presenting complex subject matter to a range of different audiences.
  • Hold a graduate/post-graduate degree in ML, AI, Computer Science or related technical discipline - or equivalent industry and ‘hands-on’ project experience.
  • Nice to have: Professional, associate and/or specialist level certifications for a major cloud vendor.
  • Very nice to have: AI/ML subject specialist certification on a major cloud vendor.
