Department – Data & Analytics, S&EUIT

Science and Enabling Units IT is a global IT capability supporting Drug Research, Drug Development, Product & Portfolio Strategy, Medical Affairs, Finance, HR, Compliance, Legal and Global Business Services. We are organized around 7 key capability areas: Business Partnering, Solution Delivery, Architecture, Application Support, Data & Analytics, Change & Operations, operating out of sites across the US, UK, Sweden, India and Mexico.

Data & Analytics provides analytics and data insight services and solutions critical to the Data & AI/ML emerging strategy and mission of S&EUIT and AZ. D&A is organized into teams specializing in Information Architecture, Data Engineering, Visual Engineering, Knowledge Management, Data Science, Data Analysis and Information Governance.

Role

The role holder should deliver tangible and measurable value to S&EUIT partners by taking a data analysis role in the delivery of the major D&A solutions. The primary task will be to design and build Global Medical Excellence(GME) end-to-end reporting support system that helps demonstrating execution of clinical strategy. You will be responsible for (i) identifying the source data sources and objects in existing reporting systems; (ii) build mapping and models from existing data sources; and (iii) validating the mappings and models from data hubs by further devising metrics effective in analysis and reporting clinical strategy.

Key will be profiling the data to understand data format and quality. Once the data is understood and documented, the data analyst will work closely with Information Architects in crafting the target state model, Engineers in crafting any ETL required, and BAs/business data stewards on quality issues which will be a blocker to the analytics requirements.

The DA will be an integral and respected part of the global team, whose input and expertise will be instrumental in ensuring the success of this delivery. The role will invariably be one of a ‘data detective’, understanding where data is in the estate, the suitability of the data to the problem in hand, the restrictions on using that data and documenting to enable re-use.

Key Accountabilities

  • Provision of data understanding (structure, provenance, quality) to Info Architects, Data Engineers and Data Scientists to support use in D&A projects.
  • BI or regular reporting experience – demonstrable experience of using data to track and then drive business performance.
  • Evidence that they have built a validated understanding of source systems.
  • Strong SQL skills – especially building customer reports / solutions. DML (Data Manipulation) statements are the priority – it’s an analytical role, not a DBA.
  • Any modelling / data warehouse design experience also a bonus.
  • Work with business & IT partners to understand data requirements in projects
  • Documentation of data in the S&EUIT data lake to support downstream use (Data Dictionary curation)
  • Support the design & testing of conformed data models in downstream analytics applications
  • Support the data preparation, curation and analytical pipeline
  • Testing of data in analytics applications, to ensure data validity and reconciliation to source systems
  • Support the design of data structures for archiving, to optimise both ingest and extraction of data from the archive.
  • Expect the development of domain expertise in sub-domains of the Science & Enabling Unit portfolio – understanding of business process, data flows, data provenance, data restrictions and data use.
  • Support data impact assessments of service or project driven changes to systems.
  • Make recommendations for improvements in our data services, enabling improved data access.
  • Any Salesforce/Veeva experience would obviously be useful but not a requirement provided you can demonstrate the points above.
  • Matrix capability leadership of data analysts offshore – supporting methodology, standard methodology, continuous evolution of capability.

Candidate Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • BI / D&A Data Analysis experience
  • Ideally some domain knowledge (processes & data): Pharma R&D and Clinical WorkflowExperience of working with a range of BI & analytics architectures: traditional warehousing, curation, data mapping, and validation of reporting generated.

  • Experience with & knowledge of broader base of D&A tools which maybe required: Spotfire, Talend Data Services, AWS Aurora, Redshift, Glacier, Informatica Powercentre, Informatica Data Quality, Informatica MDM, SAP MDM / MDG, Oracle DRM, Cisco CIS, SAP HANA/other appliances/MPP technologies, (etc)
  • Experience and familiarity with Information Architecture models and artefacts.
  • Experience of working with data scientists and their methods: understanding of how data needs to be prepared for use by data scientists.

In addition, you will be expected to demonstrate the following Leadership Skills
