Digital Design Engineer

Summary

Tethir is looking for a motivated and capable design engineer to help it build the next generation of wireless connectivity for moving vehicles. Suitable candidates will need the experience to cover complex design processes from early specification to the design and implementation of wideband communication FPGA modules and sub-systems.

The Role: 

Suitable candidates will need the experience to cover complex design processes from early specification to the design and implementation of wideband communication FPGA modules and sub-systems.   Enthusiasm, adaptability, innovation and initiative will be vital qualities in a start-up environment relying on strong teamwork and an irrepressible determination to succeed.

The most promising candidates will combine deep expertise with an instinctive ability to understand their role in the team and build an empathy with those around them, mentoring less experienced staff and actively supporting the strategies and relationships by which Tethir works towards its business goals.   

Core skills and experience:

Candidates should be able to demonstrate ability across several of the following skills:

·   Developing IP for well known communication protocols such as WiFi or LTE

·   FPGA prototyping, test and verification

·   C and other embedded software programming languages,

·   Matlab modelling

Requirements:

o   Degree in Electrical Engineering - preferably Masters or above

o   Experience in market proven HDL design

o   Experience in interfacing logic blocks with embedded CPU

o   Experience in communication systems IP design

o   Experience in using standard lab equipment such as oscilloscopes and signal generators

o   Ability to read and understand hardware schematics

o   Excellent knowledge of at least one of VHDL or Verilog

o   Excellent skills in RTL design tool usage such as Modelsim, or Incisiv

o   Experience in FPGA synthesis tools such as ISE, Virtuoso or Quartus

o   Ability to work independently and precisely

o   Happy to work in a startup environment

o   Good verbal and written communications skills

o   Fluent in English

o   British Citizen or valid work permit for the United Kingdom 

Note that experience with SoC FPGA devices such as Zynq or Cyclone V will be particularly useful.

About Tethir: 

Work to date has benefited from Innovate UK funding and proved that high bandwidth data transfer is possible without moving parts or the optical constraints of earlier systems.  Tethir is working in partnership with Network Rail Telecom, Northumbria University and a leading rail consultancy to demonstrate a working system within 18 months.  Patent action is in hand to ensure Tethir can exploit the value of this 5G compatible communication technology, which also opens up possibilities downstream for data links between autonomous vehicles. 

With further Innovate UK funding and private investment now secured, Tethir is looking to expand its team and recruit skilled engineers that are driven by the chance to introduce the next generation of communication solutions.
