Summary
For the last five years FocalPoint has strengthened its technology, reputation and team in order to be at the forefront of providing next generation positioning solutions. We are now looking for a knowledgeable, experienced and supportive Head of Standards that can influence the direction of travel, embed FocalPoint’s technologies within multiple standards and contribute to the growth and development of our strategy.
The successful candidate will have experience steering Standards (3GPP or others relating to cellular, PNT or wireless), provide technical insight into 5G/future product solutions and represent FocalPoint at relevant industry standards bodies.
Location: UK-based (international travel required with role)
Length: 1 year contract (with the view to extend if mutually agreeable) / Full-time
Collaborating with our Product, Marketing and Technology teams to communicate trends and technical requirements, you will assist us in disseminating our technology through a wide variety of whitepapers and/or presentations at global forums as well as extending our IP. Additional key responsibilities include:
- Deliver detailed technical papers, proposals and change requests for presentation to relevant Standards Bodies (for example 3GPP, NATO STANAG, FCC E-911, eCall), ensuring FocalPoint maintains an active participant in those Bodies and to represent our technical views and solutions.

Awareness of the limitations and capabilities of FocalPoint’s solutions and technologies to ensure that where relevant, these are encompassed by our Standards contributions.

Reviewing interpretations of Standards and their implied requirements, and where necessary, agreeing common action plans where change is required to the Standards.

Proactively promote FocalPoint’s S-GPS and DTail technologies, and protect FocalPoint’s interest in the emerging areas.

Persuade and influence other Standards participants to ensure FocalPoint’s technology, interests and opinions are adequately considered.

Liaise with governments, third parties and manufacturers attending Standards meetings, creating useful alliances and making Standards work more effectively.

Awareness of relevant standards, policy, processes and tools required to reduce potential safety, technical and commercial risk.

Consult with our Marketing, Product and Technology teams to answer Standards related queries, ensure product plans address Standards features and that Standardisation timescales are understood.
Your Experience
Essential:
- Extensive experience working with technical specifications (e.g. 3GPP, NATO STANAG, FCC E-911, eCall)

Experience attending Standards meetings - presenting, persuading, influencing and negotiating
- Excellent understanding of digital wireless communication systems and signal processing

Other Desirables:

Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or STEM subject.

Significant demonstrated domain experience in Radio Frequency engineering (RF) particularly as related to 3GPP 4th and 5th generation Cellular standards.

Familiarity with GPS, or other positioning technologies
