IT Project Manager - 12 Months Maternity Cover

Summary

You will be responsible for identifying budget and resource needs and the coordination of project activities that may be across IT functional areas within the organization.

You will be responsible for identifying budget and resource needs and the coordination of project activities that may be across IT functional areas within the organization. You will work with resource managers to assign and monitor work of technical personnel, ensuring that project steps are in alignment with business objectives, on-time and within budget. You will also monitor reliability and any internal issues that appear as a result of the project. Projects may be small or large in scale and be regional or global, requiring the ability to work with remote teams. Some regional travel may be required. The main place of work will be in Cambridge, UK.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute project plans for small to medium sized projects across IT domains which include schedule and resource forecasting, stakeholder identification, method and frequency of communication, scope, and prioritization.
  • Create and promote project vision and objectives within project team, ensures project/program objectives are met, presents project vision to management, and gains buy-in from stakeholders.
  • Identify resources to ensure the alignment of team member skills and strengths with project demands, creates project teams, secures resources, schedules task assignments for medium projects/programs by following project management best practices, and recommends process improvements.
  • Communicate directly with stakeholders to establish needs and goals, and executes communication/change management plan for project team, stakeholders, management, and executives.
  • Manage project performance (e.g., on time, on budget, within scope, and with quality) for projects/programs of medium to large size or complexity.
  • Support the compliance of project plans by following best practices and procedures.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders and project sponsors to develop project goals, set the prioritization of deliverables, discuss involvement of business processes (e.g., project change management, communication) and facilitate decisions necessary for project delivery.
  • Ensure and facilitates collaboration with diverse project stakeholders throughout the project by using appropriate tools.
  • Support the compliance of project plans by following best practices and procedures.

    The responsibilities of this role include:
  • Working under some supervision.
  • Responsibility for making decisions that are moderate in impact.
  • The role requires verbal and written communication skills to convey information that may be somewhat complex to others who may have limited knowledge of the subject in question.
  • Most tasks require multiple steps that can be performed in various orders; some planning and prioritization must occur to complete the tasks effectively; mistakes may result in some rework.
  • Deductive and inductive problem solving is required; multiple approaches may be taken/necessary to solve the problem; often information is missing or incomplete; intermediate data analysis/interpretation skills may be required.
  • Exercising creativity to draft original documents, imagery, or work products within established guidelines.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree and 7+ years Project Management-relevant work experience OR 9+ years Project Management-relevant work experience without a bachelors degree.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in the areas of IT, Information Systems, Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
  • 7+ years Project Management-relevant work experience in IT.
  • PMO, PMP, PRINCE2, or Six Sigma Project Management Certification.
  • 4+ years of work experience in a role requiring interaction with senior leadership (e.g., Director level and above).
  • 4+ years managing operating budgets and/or project financials.
  • A background in delivering projects in IT Infrastructure, Security and End User Experience preferred; with a good understanding of IT practices and processes.

Education Requirements

  • Bachelors degree and 7+ years Project Management-relevant work experience OR 9+ years Project Management-relevant work experience without a bachelors degree.
