Mechanical Design Engineer

Summary

8power is a spin-out from Cambridge University. We are designing and manufacturing Energy Harvesting batteries for easy integration into our customer’s IoT and industrial systems. Harvesting vibration energy can eliminate costly battery changes and extend the lifetime of battery powered systems.

We are looking for an experienced mechanical design engineer to work in our Cambridge office leading the design and development of our new energy harvesting products. Working closely with Marketing and other Engineering disciplines the successful candidate will be responsible for all mechanical aspects of the products. The candidate will report to the VP Engineering.

Key Duties

  • Design and simulation of dynamic mechanical systems
  • Work closely with suppliers to create optimal design solutions
  • Carrying out risk assessments
  • Create designs based on DFM, materials, cost, specifications, etc
  • Material and equipment specification, documentation, BOM creation
  • Design validation and testing
  • Work closely with Production partners to bring design into production

Candidate profile

  • Degree or equivalent in Mechanical Design Engineering
  • Experience of developing products for harsh, industrial environments is desirable
  • Experience in bringing low or medium volume products to market
  • Injection moulded part design experience an advantage
  • Experienced with Solidworkstm or equivalent CAE design packages
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Officetm tools
  • Failure analysis techniques
  • Self motivated
