An important part of enabling these projects is to get past such road-blocks. This might mean a wide range of things from solving a problem in the abstract – so that we are confident in our approach – to developing a prototype to convince others. You will be working with theoretical tools drawn from mathematics and physics but will also be prepared to put together prototypes using electronics, mechanics and software. You will mostly be operating at the front-end of projects during the ‘concept’ stage, developing a platform from which others can take the work forward.
At Plextek we often need to consider a diverse range of factors to provide good solutions. We therefore value people with the broadest possible technical background. Such people will generally have a strong academic foundation in physics, engineering and mathematics and can apply this to move from the comfortable place, where we are experts and we know everything, out into more uncharted territory. They will be technology enthusiasts, learning and exploring for the fun of it and for the satisfaction of having done something new. We work extensively with RF systems, so familiarity with this field would be very valuable. They will be self-motivated, with a wide span of interests, positive and able to interact with colleagues and customers in an engaging way.
This is a senior role, and you will be leading from the front when a demanding new project or opportunity arises. Due to the breadth of knowledge and experience needed we expect candidates to have at least 20 years’ experience in a range of different industries or academia, or perhaps both. However, there is scope to take on people at an earlier stage in their career if they have the required outlook.
