Why this role matters

This role is critical to ensuring that our mobile and fixed networks evolve together with a consistant and aligned network architectural strategy to support the needs of our multi-brand and multi-segment business. You will be driving the best strategic choices and architecture approach across the various platforms and technology domains which deliver outstanding experiences for our customers.

What you'll be doing

  • Accountable for setting the architectural framework for convergence across the Fixed and Mobile networks - with a focus on voice and messaging domains - but not exclusively.
  • Ensuring the architectural strategy is defined, agreed and that ongoing development is aligned to this strategy.
  • Own the architecture roadmap and drive the transformation to the future state architecture by identifying phasing, defining the architecture and business cases to execute on the strategy.
  • Making the recommendation on strategic vs tactical direction on technology choices as they impact the converged network roadmap across fixed and mobile services.
  • Decisions on vendor short lists and technical recommendations on vendor selection and strategy for managing introduction or removal of vendor from network through RFI/ITT.
  • Champion the creation of new converged services or capabilities to meet emerging customer needs through the best application of our combined fixed/mobile technology and processes.
  • A scientific, engineering, mathematical background or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to learn quickly about new technologies and apply this in understanding to the use of and impact on our networks.
  • Decision making based on a critical analysis of technical as well as wider business factors in recommending the direction forward.
  • Technical facilitation of workshops/multi-stakeholder sessions to drive a common understanding of a technical solution, problem, or options for resolution.
  • Ability to propose, robustly evaluate and quickly eliminate architecture options which are infeasible.
  • Communication of complex technical concepts (architectures/solutions/issues/risk) in a succinct and to the point messaging while ensuring that the key messages are understood.
  • Complex stakeholder management across technology domains, strategy & transformation, regulatory, and customer facing units.

We'll also need to see these on your CV

  • Breadth of telecommunications technology background and understanding across, mobile networks, voice networks, VoIP, VoLTE, IP networks and software interfaces.
  • Significant network architecture and development experience across mobile and fixed network voice/ messaging domains.
  • Previous deep focus and understanding in at least one technology domain with proven design or operational experience.
  • Previous hands on networking experience but also working at a higher level of understanding and demonstrating how different technologies interact.
  • Modelling network optimisation for performance and costs as well as formulation of business cases.
