This is a re-scoped replacement position for a RF System Engineer /Architect to work with our multifaceted wireless IC and module design teams:

-          Your objectives will be to define, implement and measure radio system designs for cellular and Wi-Fi,

o   Working with our product centres to define, implement and measure RF-systems.

o   Working with our Architecture team on requirements and specifications for integrated transceiver implementations and their characterisation.

o   Working with our systems team, FW and HW designers to implement on-chip and in-system calibration.

o   Working with our in-house test teams to reduce and improve test times for both self-test and production test.

o   Working with our module teams to reduce BoM and lower power.

 

This position targets RF Architects and talented RF IC designers wishing to grow into an Architect role. The opening is within the IC-Architecture group in u-blox, based in our Cork IC Design Centre. The IC systems team, are located in multiple sites across Europe and work closely with our three main product centres Cellular, Short Range and Positioning. Their goal is to bring the latest customer and standards requirements into our current and future product designs. The Architecture team then drives these requirements working with the HW and FW designers of the ICS product centre who provide silicon and module designs, for receivers, transceivers, power management and multi-standard, multi-radio modules.

The work is very varied and challenging and includes all aspects of system design from customer requirements to support for high volume products.

Your Responsibilities

  • Wireless system definition-, design and productizing activities.
  • Drive characterization plans and design /implement measurement platforms and oversee /perform measurements.
  • Define and optimize calibration schemes and concepts.
  • Deliver system requirements and support conversion into IC specifications.
  • Participate in peer review of IC design to make sure it aligns with system performance.
  • Ensure the compatibility of all wireless systems within design with maximal reuse of IP blocks.
  • Deliver working, timely RF solutions for u-blox wireless products.
  • Identify and develop opportunities to protect u-blox innovation through registered IP.
  • Ensure that u-blox RF technology is at the "cutting edge".

Your Skills and Experience

·         M.Sc. + 6-7 years’ experience in radio systems, preferably in cellular communication technology

·         2-3 years’ experience with integrated circuits and /or integrated transceiver design and related requirements, preferably OFDM based systems.

·         Knowledge on IC-characterization and -test

·         Knowledge of algorithm development in a HW/SW environment

·         Excellent technical skills including good mathematical/analytic approach to practical engineering, up-to-date experience with latest system design tools (MatLab, C/C++. ADS etc) as well as a good appreciation of the possibilities and limitations of digital and analogue signal processing

·         Good communication skills, verbal and written.

Bonus Point (if applicable, not mandatory)

·         Experience in RF System-Architecture specification

·         Familiarity with 3GPP wireless standards as well as a knowledge of the 3GPP radio access network design
