Software Developer Team Lead

Summary

A newly consolidated team, bringing together previously separate support and development teams for the company’s key applications, we are building out a new structure and new processes that will ensure current and future success of our application portfolio. Your peers will be other team managers, supporting their own specific application sets, but with a common goal to provide a consolidated, integrated and collaborative service to the organization.

Department:  Information Technology
GSMA Entity: Mutual
Location: London
Position type: Permanent, Full-Time
Reporting to: Head of IT Applications

About the Role

Reporting to the Head of IT Applications, this role will support the maintenance, development, and future roadmap of our GSMA Intelligence platform. The platform is a commercial B2B site - a key application in the organisation’s portfolio which requires full life-cycle management by the supporting team.

Managing a team of developers, the role will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the platform – from providing L1 support through to the development and release of new features and services.

The role will be responsible for developing and maintaining strong, mutually respected relationships with key stakeholders, representing the team for road-mapping, requirements gathering, development planning, and support engagements with business representatives.

The role demands a confident self-starter, willing to go the extra mile. You will have solid experience of Software Implementation with a strong understanding of the full SDLC and some Project Management background. Management of team resources, and feeding into overall plans will be a key part of this role.

With some elements of the development resources sourced through 3rd party providers, on an ad-hoc or project-specific basis, the role will manage direct relationships with 3rd party developers and engagement managers.

The Developer Team Leader will liaise with other IT team members to ensure consistency of delivery, support and operational processes, and work with the Head of IT Applications in running regular Change Board and Roadmap sessions with key stakeholders and other IT team members.

About You

You will be experienced in leading a development team through the full software development lifecycle, with strong knowledge of Agile and Waterfall methodologies. You will have experience of SDLC best practices, including strong code management and release management controls.

You are likely to have been a developer who has progressed to a team leader in previous roles, and are able to understand, mentor, and develop the skills of your team members. You will have developed teams to become knowledgeable, respected, and the “go-to” people for your stakeholders.

You will be interested in getting to the bottom of things – to understand how they work and why; in order to troubleshoot issues, but also to innovate by proposing improvements to the application(s) for which you are responsible, and the architecture that supports them.

Prior experience of building good relationships with stakeholders is essential and you will be able to demonstrate practical examples of this experience, showing your in-depth knowledge of business needs and technical possibilities.

  • Strong stakeholder management
  • Be data driven
  • The ability to guide, coach and mentor your team to their full potential

  • Management of 3rd party resource providers (e.g. software development houses)
  • AWS
  • Unix
  • SQL
  • API Gateways
  • Java, Scala, ElasticSearch, Github, Jenkins, Jira, Confluence
