Software Test Engineer (Server Team)

We’re looking for a talented software test engineer for our VNC Connect product.

The company

RealVNC® is a highly successful software company based in Cambridge (UK) city centre. As the original developers of VNC® remote access technology our software is used by hundreds of millions of users worldwide from the non-technical home user to IT professionals from global companies, such as Intel, IBM, NASA, Shell, DreamWorks and Philips.

The role

Working as part of the VNC Connect team, you will be primarily focused on the server component of our software. Today that runs on Windows, macOS or Linux, but we have plans to expand this to mobile and other platforms in the future. As a test engineer you will be expected to test new features, get involved in performance testing, localisation testing and carry out regression testing. You would be doing a combination of manual and automated testing, but we trust you to select the right mix for each job.

As well as working closely with the developers, you would also work with our support team to investigate customer problems. Testing is a key part of the development process, and you would be able to get involved in refining requirements at an early stage, too. This role offers an opportunity to gain experience with an exceptionally broad set of technologies, and there is always something new to learn.

We like to think we have a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. We value the input of everyone working on the project, and talented individuals can make a big difference. In exchange we expect you to be highly motivated, willing to explore novel solutions, and have a strong desire to build your knowledge and skillset.

  • Are passionate about testing and the role it plays in producing great software
  • Are experienced with manual testing techniques, including exploratory testing
  • Are comfortable writing automated tests in Python, or a similar language
  • Have experience of testing desktop applications across a range of different operating systems (e.g. Windows and either Linux/Unix or Mac) and network environments• Are able to communicate technical ideas clearly, with excellent written and spoken English
  • Ideally have some awareness or experience of commercial software development
  • Any experience of performance testing would be a bonus

Benefits and How to Apply

This role offers a unique opportunity to join our Engineering team working for a stable and successful Cambridge-based company with a recognised global brand and huge potential and vision. If you’re successful, you’ll be compensated with an attractive package which will be appropriate to your skills and experience. We also offer generous benefits, including a contributory pension, childcare vouchers, and private dental and medical care.

This is a full-time post, but we believe in a healthy work/life balance, so it’s 35 hours per week (Monday-Friday); we also promote flexi-time, with agreed core hours.

RealVNC has a responsibility to ensure that all staff are eligible to live and work in the UK and if you’re invited to interview you’ll be requested to provide proof of your eligibility to work.

RealVNC is an equal opportunities employer, committed to staff welfare and professional development.

We will not consider agency applications for this post.
