Based in Cambridge (UK) Green Energy Options (geo) specialise in the design, manufacture and support of energy management display and information systems for domestic markets across Europe. Our focus is helping consumers understand and manage their domestic energy (and water) consumption and we make consumer products and apps to achieve this. 

Established in 2006 geo is now one of the leading home energy management system companies in the world having sold over 5 million systems.  We are listed in the Sunday Times Tech Track 100 fastest growing UK tech Companies for a third year running and in 2017 we won a Queen’s Award for Enterprise: Innovation.  With major contracts to supply the UK smart metering programme, multiple connected home contracts and a growing distribution channel the company is continuing to experience rapid growth.

geo is looking to recruit a bright, talented individual to join our smart thinking team. The ambitious candidate will be someone who likes to think out of the box, knows how to get the job done and is prepared to go the extra mile to achieve great things.

The candidate will be a proven innovator who stands above their peers when it comes to demonstrating a depth of knowledge and expertise in their field. They are personable and confident and can present their ideas clearly, bringing the team along with them.

This role would suit someone who’s ready to take the next step in their career as a lead developer or architect.

The Position

You will take a technical leadership and hands-on role, working with the different teams (hardware, firmware, cloud, apps and test) alongside project managers to guide them towards the successful and timely delivery of the product and its features.

You will have the responsibility for delivering part of our major Hybrid Home product portfolio which will require analytical thinking, an understanding of data science (AI / self-learning) and good software engineering practises.

We work in an agile manner, so you will be planning and leading the team's sprints to ensure that the product and platform deliverables are met. Organisation and communication are as important to us as technical ability.

Essential Experience:

  • Good degree (2(i) or equivalent) in relevant technical subject (typically Electronics or Software engineering)
  • 5 years + experience in commercial working environment
  • Experience of leading a team from a technical perspective (ideally in an agile environment)
  • Proactive nature – as an example - taking ownership of issues outside your skillset / comfort zone.

Software development experience in Embedded environment (the successful candidate would have at least 2 years’ experience in the following areas):

  • Linux
  • C / C++
  • Python
  • Bash
  • Good understanding of IP Networking

Desirables:

  • Scalable Cloud and mobile app experience
  • Yocto build environment
  • SSL / Network Security
  • MQTT
  • Data Science / AI / Deep learning technologies
  • HW board bring-up
