Provide application support for a pre-defined finite period to help ensure QUALCOMMs Voice and Music Personal Audio customer projects can reach production as quickly as possible.

The role accelerates the customer development process by ensuring that customers technical requirements are met and their problems resolved. This is achieved by working with customers to identify their technical specifications, advising them on implementation issues, testing scenarios that concern their projects and validating Qualcomms software and hardware deliverables within the scope of their project.

The role proactively enhances the customer experience by contributing to the continual improvement of QUALCOMMs Application Development Kits (ADKs), customer facing tools and associated documentation.

This role requires you to work as an integral member of the Applications Engineering team with general supervision and instructions on routine work. The Intern Engineer will receive detailed instructions for new areas of work or special assignments and will be fully supported by the team in order to assist the completion of their agreed objectives. The role ideally suits someone with a rounded mix of software and hardware skills who enjoys solving a broad range of practical hands-on problems in an energetic environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Proactively learn about QUALCOMMs current portfolio of Voice and Music personal audio SoCs and ADKs. Become competent in installing, building and using customer software deliverables by taking a hands-on approach
  • Assist the team in delivering Applications Support to QUALCOMM Voice and Music Personal Audio customers regarding possible changes to QUALCOMM reference designs and default code to achieve the required customer specification. On occasion may be required to communicate with customers in a professional manner under supervision applying the necessary rigour and process
  • Establish and maintain professional relationships within the team. Cooperate, participate and complete own share of project work whilst supporting group decisions, participating in and making contributions to team meetings and technical reviews
  • Seek to develop customer relationships and understand customer needs
  • Help drive resolution of major technical issues encountered during the customer development process
  • Assist in the creation and delivery of training presentations, workshops and demos to our customers, distributors, internal staff and regional FAE teams
  • Assess detail of customer projects associated with assigned tasks. Consider, suggest and apply novel approaches to solving problems and realising customer requirements in terms of application modification and/or firmware modification
  • Recognise and share customer feedback with team mates on potential business opportunities and new features for QUALCOMMs next generation personal audio SoCs
  • Strive to learn about appropriate specifications and customer requirements in order to positively influence QUALCOMM product developments and example designs
  • Assist in the creation of application and reference design specific content. Take part in design reviews, software porting, software integration and analysis of problems on customer projects
  • Contacts are primarily with employees within the department however will interact with employees outside of the department as necessary

Minimum Qualifications

  • Presently studying towards an Engineering Degree
  • Some hands on experience with embedded hardware and software debugging using PC software tools and ancillary instrumentation
  • Actively seeks new information and uses it effectively on the job
  • Ability to understand issues from system level down to detailed hardware and software components
  • Ability to own problems and take fixes to a conclusion seeking appropriate assistance when needed
  • Ability to make technical and process related decisions with reasonable supervision

Preferred Qualifications

  • Wider knowledge base than main core competence
  • Hands on experience of capturing/analysing air traces using wireless sniffers
  • Knowledge of memory architectures
  • Applications engineering in a semiconductor environment
  • Knowledge of wireless technology standards, specifically Bluetooth, FM, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, GPS
  • Knowledge of Unix based environments and/or other programming/ scripting languages e.g. Python, perl, C++, Labview
  • Knowledge of Assembler and other development in resource constrained environments
  • An understanding of Audio DSP methodologies
  • Hands on experience with MatLab

Education Requirements

  • Presently studying towards an Engineering Degree
