David Cleevely awarded CBE in 2013 Honours List for services to Technology and Innovation

Friday 4th January 2013: High-tech innovator and Cambridge Wireless chairman, Dr David Cleevely is made a CBE on the New Year’s Honours list for his services to technology and innovation.

In addition to founding and chairing Cambridge Wireless, David is also the Founding Director of the Centre for Science and Policy at Cambridge University and the founding Chairman of the Cambridge Science Centre. His career as an entrepreneur spans over 30 years, and includes involvement with several other ventures such as bio and high-tech firms ABCAM, CRFS, Analysys and Neul.
“I’m very excited about the work I’m doing with the Science Centre, which will be a really great place to inspire local young people, and with the Centre for Science and Policy, which is working to connect Cambridge scientists and engineers with policy-makers, and vice versa,” says David.
David Cleevely has advised numerous governments on innovation and policy frameworks: In 2001 he was appointed by the UK government to the Spectrum Management Advisory Group, which later became the Ofcom Spectrum Advisory Board, and the IET Communications Policy Panel.

Cambridge based Dr Cleevely is said to have been “surprised and very pleased” when told that he was to be honoured. He noted: “But the honour is not about me. It’s about Cambridge, it’s about innovation, and about the way the city is developing new technology. Cambridge is a very special place, and this is a way of showing the world that”.
