Mentor Advice

CW announced the IoT Boost LPWAN competition on 13th December 2016 which is funded by Government, through IoTUK and the Digital Catapult, underlining the importance of IoT for the UK’s digital economy.

The Cambridge programme attracted a high calibre of applicants as well as mentors. Here are a few soundbites from this years mentor cohort:

Adrian Hillier

Adrian Hillier – Consultant, TTP plc

I am excited to be involved in this programme, because it represents an intersection between government, academia and private enterprise. By working together, I am hopeful we may shape UK Smart City IoT infrastructure in a way that is locally-relevant and presents a low barrier-to-entry for SMEs, allowing them to experiment and learn, then to grow and thrive. A carefully architected Smart City IoT platform with appropriate degrees of open-access to big data plus business support, may become a substantial catalyst for our young entrepreneurs of the future. I am very pleased to be playing my own small part to help realise those future growth opportunities.

Having a great idea that works is the first step – getting people to understand and accept it will also be important for it to make a difference to our local environment.

The most powerful ideas have the greatest impact when they are seen to be relevant to consumers – our program needs to deliver both.

This program provides Cambridge with another opportunity to show how progressive it is – by adopting clever thinking to make the urban environment a better for all.

My Advice to applicants?  Focus not just on technologically advanced ideas, but on ideas that work.
