HS2 would like to identify possible solutions to assuring on-site installation of reinforcement
Scope High Speed 2 Ltd. (HS2) has identified a number of cost saving opportunities which require access to the UKs innovation base. The first challenge relates to Smart Pile Cage Reinforcement. There is a significant amount of piling on the HS2 alignment including bridge foundations, retained cutting and piled walling. Traditionally the reinforcement steel cages are symmetrical and therefore over designed to allow for variances in installation.
As an example a bored pile will take loads only in certain axis yet the reinforcement cage will be designed to take the load in all axis. This project will primarily seek to identify a failsafe technological solution for pile cage alignment that will give the project confidence to allow asymmetrical pile reinforcement cages. HS2 would like to identify possible solutions to assuring on-site installation of reinforcement, and should potential solutions be identified, the HS2 would look to fund further development / site trials to prove the technology with the supply chain. This funding will be by various means and will be confirmed once potential solutions are identified.
KTN will be hosting a briefing event on behalf of HS2 to draw together a community of interested parties to hear about:
- The Technical Requirements of the Innovation Challenge
- Funding Routes (including HS2, Innovate UK and I3P)
- One to One Meetings with Funding Bodies and other networking opportunities.
