Anglian Water invest £1.5million to support future growth around Holbeach

Member News published by Anglian Water

Anglian Water will begin the installation of a brand-new water main in Holbeach next week, Tuesday 14 April, to support the growth of the new Peppermint Junction development.

Despite the challenging and uncertain times, Anglian Water staff, who are classed as key workers, are continuing to provide one of life’s essential services - keeping taps flowing, toilets flushing and drains draining.

The new mains pipe, a result of a £1.5m investment by the water company, will ensure a resilient water supply for the future amid increasing demand, keeping taps running in Holbeach for years to come.

The company’s dedicated team of operational experts will be installing 4km of new pipe in the area, with work expected to be completed by September 2020, and will see customer impact kept to a minimum wherever possible through the drilling of pipework under major roads in the area.

David Hartley, Anglian Water spokesperson, said: "Our staff are continuing to work hard to ensure that supplies and services are maintained for customers right across the region. This scheme is essential to the continuous supply of water, critical to ensuring that we can all turn on the tap and flush the toilet without a second thought.  The Peppermint Junction development is a significant one within the area of Holbeach and this work is just another example of our commitment to making sure that our network is fit to meet the demands of a growing population.”

Work to install the new pipe will see 2km of water main installed in fields south of Whaplode. A further 2km of water main will then be laid in fields alongside the A151, before drilling under the road to connect the new pipe to the existing water network.

“We have planned this work to ensure that new pipework is installed in adjacent fields wherever possible, helping to reduce the amount of disruption for local road users and residents throughout the scheme,” David continued.

Anglian Water has assured teams will be following Public Health England advice on social distancing while at work and will be limiting direct contact with customers unless it’s an emergency.
