On 21 June, our Founder, President and CTO Dr Ramsey Faragher was awarded the Royal Institute of Navigation’s (RIN) highest accolade at their 2023 Annual General Meeting. This award was presented to him at the Royal Geographical Society, London, by RIN President, Cynthia Robinson OBE.

The award, named after Sir Harold Spencer Jone (29 March 1890 – 3 November 1960), a renowned authority on positional astronomy, is given in recognition for an outstanding contribution to navigation annually by the renowned UK Royal Institute of Navigation (RIN).

Previous recipients of this notable achievement include Brad Parkinson, the inventor of GPS, Dr Frank Van Diggelen, P. V. H. Weems, Sir Francis Chichester and Sir Robin Knox-Johnston.

The citation for Ramsey’s award was, “In recognition of developing innovative technologies to improve smartphone and automotive navigation.”

As Founder of Focal Point Positioning in 2015, Ramsey set out on a mission to make every location-dependent device more accurate, reliable and secure. His innovations including the Supercorrelation™ signal processing technique have the potential to transform the capabilities of all GNSS devices.

With a long career in PNT, Ramsey has successfully developed and recommended state-of-the-art improvements to the navigation systems of manned and autonomous platforms in the land, air, sea and space domains during his time in the Defence sector.

Ramsey said, “It is an incredible honour to have picked up the highest award from RIN, and to have joined the highly-prestigious list of Harold Spencer-Jones medallists.”

A huge congratulations to Ramsey on achieving this accolade whose invention have the potential to transform the quality, performance and value of end-user mobile, wearable and automotive devices.
