  • Agilent Technologies Adds 50/67 GHz Models, Real-Time Measurement Uncertainty Capability to USB Thermocouple Power Sensors

SANTA CLARA, Calif. Jan. 22, 2014 – Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) today announced the addition of two new models to its U8480 Series USB thermocouple power sensors. The U8480 Series now comes with improved specifications, including an expanded frequency range to 67 GHz and a measurement speed of 900 readings/second, maintaining the U8480 Series’ status as the world’s fastest USB thermocouple power sensors. The U8480 Series’ real-time measurement uncertainty feature, the first of its kind in the industry, significantly reduces overall test time by removing the need for time-consuming manual measurement uncertainty (MU) calculations. Users can now compute MU in real time and at any given point. The feature also allows them to display power measurements and their MU simultaneously, simplifying test measurement and increasing test accuracy. The U8480 Series provides best accuracy and repeatability with thermocouple sensing technology and a power linearity of less than 0.8 percent. The new S-parameter and gamma correction functions further improve measurement accuracy by correcting the mismatch errors caused by inserted components between the device-under-test and the power sensor, making the U8480 Series suitable for applications such as test system or instrument calibration. Like all Agilent USB power sensors, the U8480 Series can be used as an accessory for other Agilent instruments, allowing these instruments to perform specific power measurement applications without needing to connect to a PC or laptop. The U8480 Series is compatible with Agilent FieldFox RF analyzers and MXG signal generators, giving them power meter functionalities. The power sensors also perform source power calibration with Agilent PNA, PNA-L and PNA-X network analyzers. And with USB functionality and the bundled N1918A Power Panel software, measuring high-frequency power measurements in applications ranging from high-volume manufacturing to calibration and field remote monitoring has never been more convenient. “We designed the U8480 Series to address the test challenges that our customers face today,” said Ee Huei Sin, vice president, Agilent’s General-Purpose Electronic Measurement Division. “With the significant improvement in measurement speed and the unique real-time measurement uncertainty feature, these sensors allow users to accelerate their overall design cycle without compromising performance or accuracy.” Additional Information Information on the U8480 Series is available at www.agilent.com/find/usbthermosensor_pr. • Agilent Technologies Introduces Microwave Analog Signal Generators with Industry-Leading Phase Noise, Power and Speed

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Dec. 4, 2013 – Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) today expanded its range of signal generators with two new models that provide unmatched performance in phase noise, output power and frequency-switching speed. Complementing Agilent’s flagship E8267D vector PSG and E8257D analog PSG, the new N5183B MXG and N5173B EXG microwave analog signal generators provide important alternatives in size, speed and cost. “Agilent microwave signal generators are an essential part of today’s most advanced measurement systems,” said Andy Botka, vice president and general manager of Agilent’s Microwave and Communications Division. “They reliably provide the signal purity, output power and modulation developers need to keep pushing the envelope in radar, electronic-warfare and satellite-communications applications.” The pure and precise N5183B MXG analog is an alternative to the high-performance PSG. The MXG offers accuracy, efficiency and near-PSG performance in just two rack units. Its best-in-class phase noise of less than -124 dBc/Hz (at 10 GHz, 10 kHz offset) and -75 dBc spurious enables module- and system-level testing up to 40 GHz. It also accelerates the calibration of complex systems with best-in-class switching speed of less than 600 µs. The N5173B EXG analog is a cost-effective choice when system creators need to balance budget and performance. Offering the best combination of output power (+20 dBm at 20 GHz) and low harmonics (<-55 dBc), the EXG is well-suited to the characterization of broadband microwave components such as filters and amplifiers. With low-cost coverage to 40 GHz, it also supports continuous-wave (CW) blocking for receiver testing or basic local-oscillator upconversion for point-to-point microwave backhaul links. To reduce cost of ownership, the MXG and EXG signal generators are designed for reliability and fast, easy calibration, service and repair. The recommended three-year calibration cycle and self-maintenance strategy help reduce support costs and increase instrument uptime. The PSG continues to set the standard for performance and is the industry’s most trusted microwave signal generator, with thousands of units deployed in hundreds of programs around the world. It can produce pure CW tones up to 70 GHz; signals with 1 W (+30 dBm) of power; complex, vector-modulated signals with 2-GHz bandwidth up to 44 GHz; and more. With extremely low phase noise of less than -126 dBc/Hz (10 GHz, 10 kHz offset), the PSG can serve as a reference source in metrology labs. Additional Information For more information, go to www.agilent.com/find/microwaveSigGens. Product photographs can be downloaded from www.agilent.com/find/MW_SG_images. Based on Agilent’s general-purpose vector signal generators, it can be used to generate DFS radar signals compliant with FCC-, ETSI- and TELEC-defined profiles. Additionally, it can create a Trial List table with unique trials and features user-editable parameters within a standard defined range that can be saved and recalled for repeatability tests. The N7607B can be teamed with the N7617B Signal Studio for WLAN 802.11a/b/g/n/ac, which is used for WLAN test signal creation, and integrated with a signal generator, signal analyzer and other general-purpose hardware to set up a total solution for WLAN performance test, including DFS functional testing. For existing Agilent signal generator or signal analyzer customers, this capability results in a dramatic cost savings. Agilent’s Signal Studio is flexible, scalable, easy-to-use, signal creation software that cuts the time spent on signal simulation. The software creates Agilent-validated and performance-optimized reference signals using an application-specific graphical interface. It can also be used to validate third-party interoperability. With a demonstrated first-to-market track record, Signal Studio software helps engineers stay at the forefront of product development as wireless systems continue to evolve. Additional Information Agilent’s new N7607B Signal Studio for DFS Radar Profiles software (N7607B-EFP) is available now. More information on the DFS software is available at www.agilent.com/find/n7607b.
