'The Integration of Radio and Fibre Transport in Terrestrial 5G Networks’

Andy Sutton, Principal Network Architect, British Telecommunications reviewed the use of microwave and millimetre wave radio along with optical fibre transmission systems to provide xhaul connectivity between 5G cell sites and centralised functionality. The use of RF and Fibre will be explored in the context of macro and small cell layers along with specific applications of backhaul, midhaul and fronthaul to support a range of new and evolving RAN architectures, including C-RAN and Open RAN / O-RAN.
