Is Wi-Fi the answer to 6G’s Ubiquitous Connectivity Requirement?
ITU M.2160 expects that 6G is further extended into sparsely populated areas while maintaining consistency of user experience between different locations, including when deep inside buildings. With analysts reporting that 5G indoor coverage has been relegated to a backseat behind outdoor 5G deployments, and with up to 80% of smartphone data being consumed indoors, is it time that 3GPP, the cellular industry and national regulators recognise the critical importance of indoor Wi-Fi networks in supporting any 6G-vision.

RF technologies for resilient energy efficient transceivers
Wireless, or Radio Frequency (RF), technology underpins our automated, interconnected digital world, enabling critical industries and services. Disruption to these systems could have severe societal impacts. Gallium Nitride (GaN)-based receiver technology, known for its superior RF performance, offers promising solutions to challenges such as contested spectrum congestion and high energy consumption. This talk will explore the need for more resilient, energy-efficient analogue RF front-ends and present findings from EPSRC and DSIT-funded research projects, HASC, MARIANNE and REASON.
