About the group

The CW Sustainability SIG's mission is to share best practices, knowledge and innovation to achieve sustainability, including by influencing regulation and standards.

The UN is calling for urgent action worldwide to combat climate change. Locally, the UK government has declared a commitment to decarbonise all sectors of the UK economy to achieve net zero by 2050. However, the real enablers will ultimately be those in the scientific and engineering communities: individuals and teams with inventive minds and a desire to positively impact how humanity can ‘live within its means’.

With this in mind, our SIG will provide events to encourage businesses of all technology sectors to put sustainability at the forefront of their growth plans. Our events will also foster partnerships across academia, government and standards organisations, and commercial businesses as diverse as device manufacturers and infrastructure and/or service providers. In particular, we will provide a platform for organisations that are able to demonstrate best practice, or contribute towards technology road-maps, for achieving full environmental sustainability. Their contributions may include, for example, enabling direct reduction of carbon emissions through energy efficiency and/or renewable energy sources, best practice for accessing sustainable supply chains, and design for manufacturing using regrade materials. We will welcome contributions from start-up and scale-up companies, through to established global players such as consumer appliance brands, OEMs and telecommunications service providers.

In summary, the Sustainability SIG will harness the extraordinary experience and talent of Cambridge Wireless members, to enable people of all nationalities to enjoy sustainable futures.
