Symbian Select ViewRanger as Cool App at Smartphone Show 2008
Augmentra's revolutionary mobile satellite navigation software application, ViewRanger, has been selected by software leaders Symbian as one of their five 'Cool Apps' exhibits at this year's Smartphone Show (London, Oct 21-22).
The award-winning ViewRanger software is fast becoming a 'must-have' item for a wide range of outdoor enthusiasts, from hikers to mountain bikers and horseriders, to precisely track their movements off-road on high resolution topographic (e.g. Ordnance Survey) maps.
It is available for use with any Symbian S60 GPS-equipped mobile phone and ViewRanger has recently achieved accreditation under the Symbian Ready program, which is designed to drive quality in the design and development of products, solutions and services for Symbian.
Craig Wareham, Director of Augmentra, said, "We are proud that ViewRanger has been selected by Symbian to be showcased at the Smartphone Show. It's a fantastic endorsement for our product, and comes at a time when mobile operators and handset retailers are evaluating ViewRanger."
Visitors to the show will be able to download and sample the ViewRanger software at the 'Cool Apps Live' area of the Symbian stand.
The ultimate product for navigating off the beaten track, ViewRanger has a growing portfolio of detailed topographic maps which already includes Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Holland, Slovenia and Switzerland.
Information is displayed through clear and detailed topographical maps sourced directly from national mapping agencies. Tourist and leisure information includes sites of interest, viewpoints, campsites, information centres, picnic sites and car parks, while a graphic 3D panorama feature identifies geographical points ahead. Users can download 'Map Tiles' over-the-air direct to their phone handset to cover specific areas or the entire country.
ViewRanger software requires a Symbian S60 compatible phone. ViewRanger maps and software are available pre-installed on a memory card through selected retailers, allowing you to start using ViewRanger straight away without requiring a connection to a PC; via web download from www.viewranger.com; or through mobile channels including Nokia Software Market and Orange App Store.
