Viewranger Maps Outdoor Adventures in Norway
Augmentra Ltd, a leading innovator in mobile personal navigation software, and Geodata AS, a GIS specialist in Norway, have partnered to deliver ViewRanger Norway. For the first time it is possible to explore this beautiful country with the convenience of high-quality Statens Kartverk topographic mapping on your smartphone using ViewRanger, a sophisticated but easy-to-use off-road satellite navigation application.
Norway's scenery is spectacular and everyone in Norway has a 'right of access' to the countryside - from the world-famous fjords of Western Norway, through extensive forests and twenty-one national parks, to the north of the country known for its wildlife safaris, midnight sun and northern lights. ViewRanger provides high resolution Statens Kartverk 1:50,000 scale maps with contours, roads, bodies of water, paths and tracks clearly displayed.
Other features include 'Buddy Beacon' for keeping track of friends and a sports computer for comparing routes and performance, adding a new dimension to leisure navigation and contributing to the enjoyment of the great outdoors. A 3D graphic panorama feature identifies points-of-interest in the landscape, and you can even take advantage of the phone's camera to attach pictures and videos to locations on the map and share them with the world.
The award-winning ViewRanger software, developed by Augmentra, is fast becoming a 'must have' item for a wide range of outdoor enthusiasts and weekenders across Europe. Detailed topographic maps, sourced from national mapping agencies, can be downloaded in ViewRanger for a growing global community including Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Holland, Ireland, Slovenia and Switzerland.
Christer Sandum, Director of Business Development for Geodata AS, explains "We are really excited to take part in ViewRanger's rapid expansion throughout Europe. ViewRanger offers a great extension to the GPS Outdoor product line, now allowing an even broader audience to access mapping and navigation for outdoor activities. We are looking forward to working with Augmentra and serving new and existing customers with this great product."
"We are delighted to add Statens Kartverk Norway mapping to our rapidly growing list of maps and to be working with Geodata to bring ViewRanger to the Norwegian market," said Craig Wareham, co-founder of Augmentra. "Clear and detailed topographic mapping, accurate navigation, plus revolutionary capabilities such as adding new map areas instantly over the mobile network and our BuddyBeacon live tracking, make it easy for anyone to map, navigate, and share their outdoor adventures."
As well as downloading individual map tiles direct-to-handset, users can add larger areas of Norwegian topographic mapping by sideloading onto their phones. Maps cost from just £25 for a 600-sq km section of Norway through ViewRanger's 'Self Select Mapping' option.
