On July 14th, techUK and Cambridge Wireless will be holding a roundtable at the Bradfield Centre in the Cambridge Science Park exploring the strengths, learnings and evolving opportunities for the Cambridge semiconductor ecosystem. 

Semiconductors underpin the technologies that will define the next decade, from AI and frontier compute to clean energy and communications. The UK understands this, and Cambridge is a core asset within this National response. Home to a world-class cluster of chip designers, deep tech spinouts, and global firms, Cambridge contributes a significant share of the UK's £9.6bn semiconductor industry and is recognised as a national asset in the UK's National Semiconductor Strategy. 

As the UK looks to strengthen its semiconductor capabilities, Cambridge offers valuable lessons in how to build and sustain a high-value tech cluster. However, as technologies and government priorities continue to evolve, sustaining this momentum is imperative. A one-size-fits-all approach to semiconductor policy risks leaving cluster-specific needs unmet.  

Cambridge’s capabilities position the region well to lead the next wave of innovation, helping the UK to achieve national goals, but addressing these distinct set of strengths, challenges, and opportunities that demand tailored thinking. 

Following keynote speeches from industry experts, this roundtable will bring together industry leaders, academics, and policymakers to explore what Cambridge specifically needs to maintain its edge and what it can offer the UK's wider strategic ambitions.
