Who will profit from mobile data?
A new piece of thought leadership from PwC, Be careful what you wish for... a look at the future of the mobile data market, asks if telecom operators have the right strategies in place to make their networks pay?

PwC forecast the mobile data market will be worth £21bn by 2014. If operators want a share of this, they will need to make sure their business models keep pace with the rest of the industry, where service providers like Apple and Google are surging ahead.

If operators wish to profit from the dramatic growth in smartphones they will very quickly need to understand the costs of delivering mobile data. Once they’ve done so, they will also need to change their approach to content, pricing, customer management and network investment. If operators don’t react, they could find themselves just providing costly infrastructure to keep pace with customer demands, without enjoying any of the associated revenues.

This report includes a self-assessment to help operators and content providers gauge their strategic strengths and weakness and begin to plan how they can profit from mobile data.
