Cambridge is the main hub for local and international technology specialists
Cambridge has long had a reputation as home to leaders in the technology industry. From the University through to technology companies and networking hubs it has become an international connection point, a place where like-minded people can share their expertise. This is true, more so now, than ever before.
ionscope, a nanotechnology company based in Cambridge and specialists in Scanning Ion Conductance Microscopy, recently appointed a Software Engineer from Beirut. British-born Sami Farhat, was working at the American University of Beirut and was introduced to ionscope through the thought leadership network, Cambridge Wireless (CW).
ionscope has UK Intellectual property and exports UK manufactured goods to Asia and North America. Dr Ward Hills, CEO of ionscope, commented: “I have really benefited from being associated with CW over the years. CW provides an environment for robust discussion and establishing active connections, which are increasingly international. I met and worked with Mr Farhat last year and now very pleased he is joining the team at ionscope.”
Sami Farhat was an intern with Ward last year and reconnected at CW’s recent Future of Wireless International Conference, and was quickly offered the position of Software Engineer at ionscope in support of the on-going advancements there. Sami Farhat said: “The abundance of technology experts in Cambridge makes it a great environment to be in, both for networking and expertise. It’s good to know that when you know who to contact, the people who have both the international reach and local connections, finding the right people is easy”.
CW started out as Cambridge 3G and has evolved into a company that connects thousands of people nationally and globally. Through its special interest group events and large conferences, the company is making a serious impact. Soraya Jones, CW CEO said: “We are pleased to see that a specialist company such as ionscope has benefited from our work. Our conference aims to draw international delegates into Cambridge, and allow the industry to network, collaborate and innovate. To see that this connection has been made and both parties have found what they are looking for as a result is great.”
