Participation, Technology and Development:
An interactive discussion with Prof. Robert Chambers and Dr Alistair Cockburn
- What are the crossovers between participation in social development and software development?
- What can the two sectors learn from each other?
- How can they relate to the reduction of global poverty?
The Humanitarian Centre will bring together leading experts in each field for the first time, to spark a new dialogue and inspire further thinking. We will also be celebrating the launch of the 2011 Cambridge International Development Report on ICT4D.
Prof. Robert Chambers: “Since the 1980s, he has been one of the leading advocates for putting the poor, destitute and marginalised at the centre of the processes of development policy. The widespread acceptance of a "participatory" approach is in part due to his work” David Simon–‘Fifty key thinkers in development’
Dr Alistair Cockburn: is an expert in what is called agile development, co-authoring the Manifesto for Agile Software Development and the project leadership Declaration of Inter-dependence. He wrote the Jolt-Productivity Award winning book on the subject, Agile Software Development and was named one of “The All-Time Top 150 i-Technology Heroes” in 2007.
The audience will be invited to participate in the discussion and debate.
