About Paul

Paul has over 25 years experience in AI and telecommunications. His career has spanned many roles including software development, technology venturing and start-ups, leading international collaborations and research labs, and chairing standards committees. As Director of Research at BT he created an award winning global team developing data and AI powered solutions to some of the most challenging telecommunications and digital problems. This included exploiting AI and machine learning to automate operations, developing advanced data analytics capabilities for cyber security, and exploiting optimisation technologies for driving business agility and efficiency. In this role his team produced one of the largest UK AI patent portfolios.

Paul is a Royal Academy of Engineering Visiting Professor in computing at Ulster University. He is also a Board member and Fellow of the Institute of Telecommunications Professionals where he is a keen advocate for careers in engineering and technology.
