Come to this 3 hour session if you would like to be able to:
- Convey complex information that even non-technical audiences will appreciate and value
- Figure out why they didn't understand it before, and why they will understand it now
- Get other people excited and engaged about your tech expertise.
Why should you choose this course?
This is a highly interactive session for engineers and scientists at all levels in the business who have to work with people who don't "get it". 90% of the time during the group session will be spent practising and testing out various ways of presenting complex concepts to your non-technical audiences. 10% of the time during the group session will be spent giving techniques on how to present, influence, convince non-technical audiences. Attendees will be able to test out conveying a technical concept in several ways and see which version is best at getting the message across.
Some of the best initiatives or technology often don't get the credit or the support they deserve because other people don't understand it. Often, game changing projects are disregarded because the people who can move them forward did not see the benefit to the business or to their own departments.
This session is very practical and interactive, so get ready to roll up your sleeves and get practising your message!
Who should attend?
This course is designed for people who are scientists or engineers who want to get their message across to non-technical colleagues, staff or customers.
The following people would benefit by attending this course:
- CTO / VP Engineering / Head of Engineering
- Senior Managers / Directors with a tech or science background
- Project/Product/Programme Managers who are scientists or engineers
- Software/Hardware Engineers, Developers, Scientists who want to influence upwards, downwards or sideways in their organisation
- Anyone with a technical or scientific background wishing to understand how to get their ideas appreciated by those people who never seem to "get it".
What is the course outcome?
By the end of the 3 hours, the attendees will have practised and tested a clear formula for influencing non-technical audiences. They will be able to see why their message wasn't understood before and exactly what to change so it is understood now.
Attendees will leave with a clear method of changing the way they talk about their message.

Who is the course leader?
Adelina Chalmers a.k.a. ‘The Geek Whisperer’ helps break down the barriers between engineers and other business functions and she is top 7 Cofinitive #People to Watch with her business, The Geek Whisperer®.
Adelina was always keen to improve her soft skills, but after taking countless courses, she felt she had wasted her time and wondered: “how does this apply to me tomorrow, in my next meeting?”
She now runs communication skills training where she translates complex concepts into practical, in-the-moment techniques (based on neuroscience) you can use to change the outcome of a meeting.
The name "Geek Whisperer" came from someone who observed Adelina working with engineers helping them pitch their ideas and said: "I have never seen anyone connect with engineers like this. It's like you are a geek whisperer." She loved the name, but did not take it on until 5 years later, after she spoke to countless engineers and scientists and asked if they felt patronise by this name. The vast majority (93%) said they loved the name and found it quirky, so she decided to take it on.
She also works with one of Arm’s original founders (Jamie Urquhart) and other unicorn executives on a bi-annual event (named “Unicorn’s Den” by Business Weekly) where Cambridge tech start-up founders present a business problem and the panel (made of billion dollar tech businesses founders and executives) give advice on how they would solve this problem. Other people on Adelina’s panel include: former MD at Yahoo! Europe, former CTO at HP, Director of Engineering at Amazon and several Arm GMs and VPs.
Attendees of a previous course led by Adelina Chambers had this to say:
“The techniques Adelina taught us made an instant improvement in how I communicated at work. I can now speak clearly and convincingly on any subject and all it took was a couple of hours in a single workshop.”
Paul McGrath, Senior Software Engineer, Compare the Market
"I was initially very sceptical on how she could help, but Adelina cut through the bull and got down the essence of the issues and who helped me understand how to improve. Wish I’d worked with you 20 years ago. "
Dan Cowell, CEO, Psyomics
“Adelina really helped me cut through the noise and get to the core of the problem our product is addressing. This gave us an arresting opening for the pitch, and it worked like a charm — we came home with the Award for Business Innovation!”
Rob Hague, CTO, Cydar
