Non-Executive Director – Social Care

Summary

Are you passionate about health, technology and representing the needs of patients and the public? Perhaps you are already working for a patient group or have lived experience and have the skills we need to ensure that patient needs are at the heart of the latest innovations developed in our region?

Eastern AHSN (Academic Health Science Network) is a driving force in supporting the innovation ecosystem in the East of England. Funded by the NHS and the Office for Life Sciences to bring together academia, citizens, health services and industry to realise the value of innovations more quickly, our focus is the East of England, but we are part of a national network which enables us to deliver at scale.

Together with our partners, we support innovators from insight to implementation – helping them design and engineer new technologies and products, navigate complex systems and generate value propositions that make a positive and lasting health impact. We are looking for someone to join our board who has a strong understanding of working with, or developing communities, local authorities, patient and public involvement and/or social care to help us deliver our purpose to turn great ideas into positive health impact.

A recent example of our work is how we helped to bring together academia, industry, patients and the NHS to secure a significant grant from Health Data Research UK to establish a health data research hub for inflammatory bowel disease. The objective of this hub is to securely bring together genomic data with the NHS health records data to better understand why patents respond differently to treatments. This initiative makes the prospect of personalised medicine real for IBD patients and could help limit disease progression.

We are ambitious for patients and believe our health is too important to leave change to chance – if this also sounds like you please get in touch. We support diversity in all its forms and welcome applications from all backgrounds who share our purpose. We are particularly interested in applications from the diverse range of communities we are here to help, including but not limited to BAME communities, rural communities and the LGBTQ+ community. We are also happy to support first time board members and make our recruitment processes as inclusive as possible to everyone, this includes making reasonable adjustments for people who have a disability or long-term condition.

For further details on the role click here and for information on how to apply please contact Per Reiff-Musgrove, Company Secretary on per.reiff-musgrove@eahsn.org.

The closing date for applications is 5pm on Thursday 24 September 2020. Interviews for shortlisted candidates will take place in the week of 12 October.
