Ten minutes with: SyntheSys
1. How long has your company been in operation, and what was the inspiration for its founding?
Founded in 1988, SyntheSys’ pedigree is in military communication systems that provide comprehensive real-time mission-critical command and control data. Our inspiration came from our military customers’ need to respond to challenges associated with increasingly complex system design, acquisition, test, and maintenance needs.
Our Defence offering has evolved into a service which translates across high-growth industrial sectors, and we support engineering organisations by delivering best-in-class systems engineering services. We now serve automotive, rail, aerospace, energy, and other industries whilst maintaining our position in our traditional defence market.
2. What is special about your company’s products / services?
We focus on tool-supported systems engineering where we take world-class development tools and team them with our mentoring services and training packages to give our customers a competitive advantage. Our services focus on best practice systems engineering, the role that it plays within an organisation and how this can be developed and improved to achieve wider commercial objectives. We have helped many engineering organisations increase their competitiveness through advice on processes, training, and the introduction of software tools.
3. Where does your company see itself heading in the next ten years?
We boast some of the UK’s most innovative engineering organisations and both our own and our customers innovations drive us into the future. Our aspiration is to further embed Systems Engineering and Systems Thinking approaches across existing and new sectors as a means of driving innovation, reducing risk, and improving engineering quality. We would like to strengthen the systems engineering skills market by adding social value through our training offering and work within the community.
4. Do you have any job opportunities that might be of interest to the CW community?
We would like to talk to individuals with a general background and expertise in Systems Engineering. Our user base of the IBM® Engineering Lifecycle Management tools continues to grow and we would welcome discussions with individuals who are highly proficient with IBM® engineering tools such as DOORS® Family, Systems Design Rhapsody, Engineering Workflow Management or Engineering Lifecycle Optimization-Publishing. Our Defence team is also on the lookout for individuals with a background in Tactical Data Link implementation, sustainment, and training.

Our main objective is to learn more about this vibrant and evolving network, and we hope to gain insight through making new connections and knowledge sharing. We would also like to work with the community to understand how systems engineering can be applied in different sectors and domains.
