Sometimes it's not possible to use a battery, even a rechargeable one or an ultracapacitor. Ways of thinking about efficient use of energy, designing for it and validating the results are illustrated with examples of battery-less energy scavenging designs, together with a brief introduction to transient computing for OS's running on scavenged power.
